What is this?
AWS CloudFormation provisions infrastructure from YAML or JSON templates. Stacks track resources as a single unit for create, update, and delete.
Why should you care?
AwsVerse landing zones and VPCs are CloudFormation stacks — no manual console drift.
See it live — copy this example
Run in AWS CloudShell / local AWS CLI v2, or follow the matching steps in the AWS Console (Free Tier).
Resources:
AwsVerseBucket:
Type: AWS::S3::Bucket
Properties:
BucketEncryption:
ServerSideEncryptionConfiguration:
- ServerSideEncryptionByDefault:
SSEAlgorithm: AES256
PublicAccessBlockConfiguration:
BlockPublicAcls: true
BlockPublicPolicy: true
What happened?
- Template snippet creates an encrypted private S3 bucket.
- Deploy with aws cloudformation deploy --template-file vpc.yaml --stack-name awsverse-vpc.
Practice next
- Write minimal template with one S3 bucket.
- Validate: aws cloudformation validate-template --template-body file://template.yaml.
- Deploy stack; delete stack to clean up.
- Add Output exporting VPC ID.
- Nest stack for network and app layers.
Remember
CloudFormation = IaC on AWS. Stacks are lifecycle units. Use change sets before update.
AwsVerse stack library
Ten teams need identical VPC pattern.
Outcome: Nested stacks vend prod-ready network in 12 minutes.
