What is this?
Amazon API Gateway exposes REST, HTTP, and WebSocket APIs with auth, throttling, and integration to Lambda, HTTP backends, or AWS services.
Why should you care?
AwsVerse mobile banking app calls HTTP APIs with JWT authorizers and usage plans per partner.
See it live — copy this example
Run in AWS CloudShell / local AWS CLI v2, or follow the matching steps in the AWS Console (Free Tier).
aws apigatewayv2 create-api \
--name awsverse-payments-http \
--protocol-type HTTP \
--target arn:aws:lambda:ap-south-1:123:function:payment-handler
What happened?
- Creates an HTTP API with Lambda proxy integration.
- Add routes, stages, and custom domain for production traffic.
Practice next
- Create HTTP API with Lambda integration.
- Add route POST /pay.
- Test: curl https://api-id.execute-api.region.amazonaws.com/pay.
- Add JWT authorizer on protected routes.
- Enable access logging to CloudWatch.
Remember
API Gateway = managed API front door. HTTP API is cheaper for Lambda. Usage plans throttle tenants.
AwsVerse partner API
Fintech partners need sandbox keys.
Outcome: Usage plan caps 1000 req/sec per API key with burst control.
