Ops · 3 — DevOps, security, scale · ~10 min · Cloud — Serverless & DevOps
What is this?
GitOps uses Git as the source of truth — cluster or cloud state syncs from committed manifests via controllers.
Why should you care?
CloudVerse K8s teams revert bad deploys with git revert, not mystery kubectl edits.
See it live — copy this example
Use AWS/Azure/GCP free tier or local Docker/Kind. Sketches and YAML are meant to be typed and adapted.
# Argo CD Application (CloudVerse payments)
apiVersion: argoproj.io/v1alpha1
kind: Application
metadata:
name: payments-api
namespace: argocd
spec:
project: cloudverse
source:
repoURL: https://github.com/cloudverse/gitops
path: apps/payments/overlays/prod
destination:
server: https://kubernetes.default.svc
namespace: payments
syncPolicy:
automated:
prune: true
selfHeal: true
What happened?
- Controllers reconcile drift.
- PRs change desired state; pipelines do not kubectl apply by hand in prod.
Practice next
- Store manifests in a repo.
- Install Argo CD or Flux in lab.
- Sync one app.
- Add sync windows for banking maintenance.
- Use sealed secrets for credentials.
Remember
Git = desired state. Controllers reconcile. PRs for prod changes.
CloudVerse GitOps rollback
Bad deployment raises 5xx errors.
Outcome: Revert commit; Argo CD rolls back in minutes.
