ArchDesk Capstone Design

Foundations & Styles ✓Distributed & Data ✓Cloud & Quality ✓Leadership & Cases

Leadership & Cases · 4 — Lead · ~10 min · Case Studies

What is this?

Capstone: produce an HLD one-pager, 3 ADRs, a failure-mode table, and a phased roadmap (now / next / later) for ArchDesk.

Why should you care?

This is portfolio and interview evidence — decisions with reasons, not a logo collage.

See it live — copy this example

These are architecture exercises: fill templates, draw boxes, write ADRs. No cloud bill required.

# Deliverables
1) Context + containers diagram
2) ADR-001 style, ADR-002 data, ADR-003 messaging
3) Failure modes: dependency down -> user impact -> mitigation
4) Roadmap: modular monolith -> extract 1 service

What happened?

  • Four artifacts cover structure, decisions, resilience, and evolution.
  • Follow the steps below — typing the code yourself is the fastest way to learn.

Practice next

  1. Draft all four artifacts.
  2. Peer-review with a friend for 15 minutes.
  3. Remove one unjustified technology.
  4. Add cost estimate per phase.
  5. Add one security control per trust boundary.

Remember

Capstone = defendable design pack. Phasing beats big-bang rewrites. Failure modes prove maturity.

Design review day

Stakeholders challenge your choices.

Outcome: You answer with ADRs and trade-offs.
