What is this?

$.get(url) loads data with HTTP GET and returns a jqXHR (thenable). Handle success and fail explicitly.

Why should you care?

QueryVerse widgets often refresh JSON lists from an API.

Examples include the jQuery 3.7 CDN. Paste into an HTML file or use Run Example to preview.

        $('#out').text(JSON.stringify(data, null, 2));
      })

What happened?

  • Prefer .done/.fail or .then.
  • Check status in fail.
  • For same-origin APIs use relative URLs.

Practice next

  1. Click load and read the JSON.
  2. Change the id in the URL.
  3. Log jqXHR.status in fail.
  4. Try $.getJSON for JSON-only.
  5. Abort with jqXHR.abort() on navigation later.

Remember

get = GET helper. Handle fail. Parse JSON carefully.

Refresh card

Dashboard tile needs remote data.

Outcome: GET success and error paths work.
